Workin' on My Fitness

Perhaps this might make me less of an athlete (but then again, who am I kidding? I'm NOT one), but nothing motivates me more than new workout gear. And if it's neon? Well, I'm more than set. ;) While I have plenty of running/training shoes, sports bras, yoga pants, etc., I still find myself purchasing more. I just purchased my newest training pair, the neon yellow/graphite Free TR Luxe by Nike, and I couldn't be happier. I can slip them on without socks, they weigh next to nothing, and I can use them for both running and cardio. They're cute, fit perfectly, and get me to the gym.

I used to get crap every time I'd leave for the gym in makeup and matching workout gear... "Have fun, Workout Barbie! Remember, you don't sweat, you glisten!" But good-natured kidding aside, feeling and looking good when I head to the gym has always equated to more productive workouts for me. These days, I'm rotating my runs with 60 minutes of cardio each day, plus daily ab work. It feels AMAZING to be getting back into the swing of my workouts again. I've also added in meditation and stretching at home, with the occasional weekend yoga class. My stress is significantly lower and my body just feels better.

I didn't make a fitness resolution this year, knowing more likely than not, I'd fail if I made a specific goal. (Isn't that how it usually goes?) My goal for 2012 is to be kinder to myself, both in a physical and emotional sense. I've been working so much towards this in the past month or so, and the results are starting to show. I'm trying to eat small, well-balanced meals throughout the day (something I skipped entirely when I was wrapped up in a big work-related project this fall, screwing up my metabolism) and I'm drinking much more water. I actually drink 32 ounces of water every night before bed (just to ensure I've gotten enough water throughout the day), and I'm sleeping at least eight hours every night. I no longer drink my nonfat chai lattes from Biggby or Starbucks, instead ordering green tea.

GT's Organic Raw Kombucha (Multi-Green): I drink half a bottle of this green elixir every day, which is high in both probiotics and antioxidants. Sure, it sounds weird with it's Klamath blue green algae and spirulina, but it's surprisingly drinkable (albeit a little vinegary). I buy this at Whole Foods once a week, although it must be a hot-seller, because I can never find more than two bottles at once. Bananas: Also a staple in my diet now, which is pretty typical for a post-workout refuel. Since becoming a vegetarian (four years ago next month!), my body actually craves potassium & this is an easy way to get it.

Good music has always been essential to my workouts, so I leave you with a song that is first on my new workout playlist. Love me some JT. ;) Enjoy!

Music Monday (er, Tuesday)

Yesterday was a crazy, stressful day for my family and I didn't get a chance to post this new workout playlist of mine. I've managed to fit in a run everyday for the past six days... not so sure how I'd be handling things without these workouts. Exhausted in every possible way, but thankful I have something that can bring at least a little peace.

Drake - Headlines from dj aik on Vimeo.

Drake's also been on heavy repeat, especially on my commutes into work. Like the gritty urban filmography of this video, reminds me of the feel of my Abandoned Detroit series.

Have a bunch of products I've been meaning to review, especially since I just dyed my hair back to its natural dark, dark brown and have been switching my look up a bit. Promise to get some of of those up asap, along with a YT video as well. Thanks for being patient.

Work It Out

Ohhhh, how I've missed my regular runs. Did my old standby of six miles tonight, and was reminded why I was addicted to it before. I don't care how early I have to get up, or if I have to run after an 8 hour work day... I just need to make time for it. I get so much clarity and strength from just throwing on those old Nikes. Louboutins are pretty and NARS makes a killer bronzer, but neither can compare with the stride and glow I get from running. No more half-assing.

Harder, better, faster, stronger.

What I'm Loving Right Now...

Vogue's September Issue
Receiving Vogue's 758-page September issue in the mail... a.k.a. the fashion bible. Sure, 584 of those pages are ads, but I'm a marketing grad and I love analyzing them. (Hmmm, maybe it's more about making a mental list of things to lust over. heh.) Nonetheless, a Galliano-clad Kate Moss looks gorg on the cover, and Vogue almost always nails their fashion spreads.

Spending time with family and friends at a huge 10-mile road race this morning.
I had been training pretty intensely for this year's New York City marathon, but unfortunately, I allowed a small hairline ankle fracture and my trip to California to destroy my training schedule. I'm hoping to check the marathon off my list next year, but today's race just reminded me how much more I want to do it.

NARS Larger Than Life Lip Gloss (shop)
Michael Kors Chronograph Watch (shop)
NARS' new Larger Than Life lip gloss in Tiber is amazing: the perfect, superglossy neutral lip color. I  can't get enough of it; I've literally worn it everyday for two weeks. My goldtone Michael Kors has also been in heavy rotation this week, since my schedule is becoming more and more demanding. I especially love layering it with delicate bracelets, but it looks equally cute on its own.

John Mayer- "Your Body is a Wonderland"
Nine years after its release, this song still remains as one of my ultimate favorites. The lyrics are sweet and sexy, and it's guaranteed to put me in a great mood.
